Front Page Recap Logs - Garaitha's Anvil

SESSION 114 - Its not often that there is only good things happening, but it is true. After returning home and having a heated debate with the Protectors of the Prime, everything settled down. Our heroes enjoyed some good R&R and took advantage of getting some micro-managing taken care of, most especially with sourcing alchemical potions for future use. Likely vital use, since Gil Ga’Dek has made his departure back to his people. The first bit of good news was the information that Bramko Ironfell produced was all very good. With the githyanki bringing war to several areas of the world, the council needed a good lead. The encrypted note couldn’t have come any sooner, as a missive from a frontier commander in Thirudith spoke of having encountered githyanki. There was no attack reported, but it seemed some githyanki were hunted down. Normally, this information would have been easily passed over as any other missive, but the encrypted note spoke a portal in this very area. The council called for a meeting and asked the Green Dawn to meet with this commander. They were to leave in the morning. That afternoon, they had a visitor. Sheldon joined the guest in the tea room. Dressed in a dark-colored, fur-lined cloak was Leena. The shadar-kai war witch and Sarshan’s ex-lover. The same Leena who helped to sabotage Umbraforge. She told the group that she’d been on a path of redemption and have been tracking their whereabouts so she can join their ranks, if they’ll have her. She noted that with no wizard in the group; the departure of McShane was spoken of, and the recent retirement of Gil, she could be the one to help them out. After a bit of talking, she was accepted, but on a probationary period. More good news. Then, the next morning, a bunch of activity in the mansion had the staff in a tizzy. They quickly awakened the heroes and told them something strange was going on. Cantletop Eve kept pointing upwards, but only the ceiling was there. He was at a loss of words. Once outside, the activity there was just as busy. People from nearby streets were watching the sky above the mansion and guards had weapons out. Looking up, the groups airship hovered. Tok’kit was leaning over the railing yelling to them and waving his arms. Everyone smiled, but none as much as Sheldon. It seems the soul gems worked afterall. Bramko was johnny-on-the-spot. A rope ladder was thrown over and the group climbed aboard. Well, not all. Leena & Damakos teleported. Bringing their gear aboard, they plotted a course to Thirudith and kept a low altitude. Tok’kit explained that they should be able to make it there and back with the soul gems they used. Two days later, they met with the commander. They were briefed on what they knew, and then their scouts led the group out to the location of the githyanki bodies. There were no bodies. They traveled a bit more, and then the scouts said they had gone outside their normal range and must go back. It was ok, becasuse Sheldon spotted some worn & rough-hewn stairs cut right into the cliff bluff. This was worth following…

SESSION 115 - The Freeriders, led by Megan Swiftblade, tagged along. Sheldon scouted ahead and was gone for awhile. Megan got impatient and her devout boyfriend, Sylan went to scout ahead when Sheldon didn’t return after awhile. Both came back a short time after Sylan left, and Sheldon reported a strong presence of githyanki within along with some sort of githyanki shade. Perhaps some sort of undead. With two entrances into the cliff, and both entrances being out of sight from one another, Megan offered to go to one entrance while The Green Dawn went into the one Sheldon scouted. Damakos argued that they should stick together, but Megan wanted her group to fly solo. It was quite a heated discussion, and with a few insults thrown around, our heroes digressed and decided to move out on their own. Let Megan have her way. With the area scouted out, the group was able to sneak up the cliff face and surprise the githyanki that were on watch in the entrance cavern. The fight went smoothly and devastatingly bad for the gith. Leena showed immediately that she can be of use, most especially with her alluring words of power. She had the gith fighting each other more than they were fighting our heroes. The next area had some gith camped about in a lower chamber while the shades were in the upper chamber littered with broken githyanki statues. The plan was to lure the shades away, finish them, then take down the 3 or 4 gith that were below. The plan half-worked. They lured the shades, but one of them alerted the gith below. It took some time before they could answer the call, and the group made short work of the two shades that were lured. The fight was confined to the halls, which for the most part, worked well. With a quick rest it was time to move on…

SESSION 116 - The githyanki are divided it seems. After defeating a couple formorian’s in what was once a martial training room, they were able to speak with the roped up contigent of ten githyanki. These githyanki were prisoners of the formorians. Most of the githyanki are older or non-combatants. They wore tattered robes, a symbol of their duress while captive. The Green Dawn was torn between outright killing these conquerors or intrigued enough to ask some questions. Diplomacy prevailed. The eldest introduced herself as Talanee and explained that this structure was their Fane. They were the Chanhirii, a very pious religious sect of their lich-queen Vlakiith. Our heroes bristled at just a mention the name. Damakos said “convince us not to kill you”. Talanee explained that their fane protected a portal which the githyanki hold in high importance. She seemed anxious and explained that if they don’t act quickly to kill off the ‘invaders’ then the portal would be lost for good and with it, the prime world. She stated she’d explain everything in more detail after the fighting. Strange that she used the word ‘invader’ to describe those of her own kind… Through the double doors our heroes went and into the portal chamber. A column of astral energy beamed down through the ceiling to a force sphere at ground level in this amphitheater styled room. Below were over a dozen githyanki fighters. Some with dual silver blade and a few with great blades. The fighting began…

SESSION 117 - The fighting in the portal room was spread out. Cobok ended up being swamped by a half-dozen githyanki and took a beating for his efforts. If not for the healing prayers of Yamis, this fight would be a whole lot different. The tide turned rather amazingly for our heroes and the gith were being widdled down. As the fight was nearing an end, the doors on the other side of the room burst open! Gith were on the run and chasing them were the FreeRiders! When the fighting had settled, Talanee and the rest of the Chanhiir came forth and as promised explained just exactly what they were protecting in their fane. The portal is known as a World Gate. She explained that there were many of these through-out all the planes, and that they all were connected to another unique & powerful gate called the ‘Well of Worlds’. This was the center nexus of astral energy and main hub for astral travel by the githyanki. From the ‘Well of Worlds’, you could get to any githyanki gate. For our heroes, they were interested in getting to Garaitha’s Anvil, the githyanki shipwyards. There was a big problem though, only those of true githyanki blood could travel these planar gates. They sent a message back to PoP, and within a few hours, Amyria, Bejam, his apprentices, and some warriors showed up via the coordinates of the World Gate in the Fane. Research began in earnest and within the next couple hours, Bejam was able to figure out how to re-create thos whitefire marks that the formorians had on their forearms. The mark which would allow passage through the gates. It was simple enough, but very draining, he explained. Not wanting to wait for the gith to respond with a strike force of their own, Bejam started the ritual and each of our heroes recieved the whitefire mark. He warned them that their may be side effects, but couldn’t describe what that might be. Without anymore delay, our heroes thought of the ‘Well of Worlds’ and stepped into the World Gate. Blazing white light flared, hurting their eyes. In the moments of adjusting, they noticed a wraith-like apparition rise up from what appeared to be astral haze. They were on a platform with a 10’ wide bridge leading to two closed doors. The apparition was blocking the way. It attacked despite our heroes bearing the whitefire mark. The creature did a great job of putting our heroes into the liquid looking astral haze. Once in it, you could not move. You lost all inertia. The only way out was to be pulled out by another. On top of that, it burned with radiant energy if you were lucky. If not, it left you confused, and burned hotter. The bright white light was beginning to be a problem to, and gradually our heroes eyes succumbed to the brightness, causing them to see everything in a haze. No more clear vision. There was a third problem as well. Bejam warned of side effects, but who knew those would happen so quickly. The whitefire marks started to burn brightly and with that, astral fire spread through-out their bodies. It was very unpleasant and like the astral haze, it left you momentarily dazed. If not for all this, the fight would have been a lot easier. One by one though, our heroes became immune to the side effect. If you concentrated hard enough, you could nullify it’s effects for good. Hopefully that will be the only side effect! Sheldon wanted out the platform room badly, and although the others didn’t say anything, they too hurriedly moved out. Sheldon & Leena to the right, following a curved wall, and Damakos to the left. Yamis & Cobok stayed behind so they could have a chance of a stealthy approach on the gith they knew were nearby. Bejam’s apprentices said their clairvoyance allowed them to see that six githyanki had arrived at the Well of Worlds. This is a strange new place. It seems it may take some time getting used to this new environment. More to come…
